PREMIERE OF THE DOCUFILM

AMERICAN MICHELANGELO. FINDING CONSTANTINO BRUMIDI

by Antonella Ciancio

A cinematic journey of Constantino Brumidi’s artistic legacy in the United States, the documentary examines his remarkable body of work in the U.S. Capitol and the White House. From the majestic Rotunda and the Senate Corridors to six richly decorated Special Rooms, exploring Brumidi’s enduring contribution to America’s visual and cultural heritage.

Through a series of interviews with leading Italian and American experts in art history and conservation, the author, Antonella Ciancio, explores the life and work of an Italian artist who emigrated to the United States and became a significant figure in the encounter between Italy’s artistic tradition and the values of the young American democracy.

The film retraces the artist’s journey and his ability to translate the democratic ideals of the United States into a powerful and distinctive visual language, drawing on the highest traditions of Italian painting while incorporating the techniques, luminosity, and rich colors of the frescoes of Pompeii, with particular attention to the influence of Raphael and the Renaissance, as well as to the artistic traditions of the Baroque.

The project is part of the Italian celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, emphasizing the deep and longstanding cultural dialogue between Italy and the United States.
